To say "my car does not start" is a good start, but it does not describe a single failure. Before buying a battery or a start engine, it is appropriate to explain what happens when trying to turn on the vehicle. These observations help to prepare the appointment; they do not replace a professional inspection.

Three useful descriptions
- It doesn't turn: When you ask for the boot you do not listen to the usual movement of the engine. It indicates whether there is silence, a click or several clicks.
- Turn slowly: You hear that he tries to move, but slowly than normal. He describes whether it happens in the first attempt of the day or after using the vehicle.
- Turn but don't turn on: You perceive the start movement, but the engine does not start to work on its own. If you do not know how to distinguish the sounds, say it; you do not need to guess.
Why it is not appropriate to choose a piece by sound
DENSO explains that a low speed of turning can be related to the state of the battery or to resistance in connections and circuits, among other causes. Professional evaluation uses vehicle measurements and specifications. A click alone does not confirm which piece should be replaced. Nor does a light on the board show that the battery can deliver what is necessary to start.
What information to send for the appointment
- Year, brand, model and engine, if you know him.
- What you hear and what messages appear on the board.
- When it started and if it happens always or intermittently.
- If it happened after it was parked, a repair or a change of battery.
- If the vehicle is immobilized and where it is, to coordinate the attention before moving it.
Do not repeat long attempts to record the noise. DENSO warns that continuous drive can damage the boot system. Follow your vehicle manual; do not end bridges or wire handles to check a theory. If there is smoke, intense fuel smell or unsafe conditions, stop trying to start it and ask for assistance.

Slow cranking or cranking without starting: describes the symptom
"My car will not start" can describe different situations. Tell the shop whether the engine does not turn, turns more slowly than usual, or turns without beginning to run on its own. Mention silence, clicking, dashboard messages and whether the problem happens after parking or after driving. If you cannot identify the sound, say so instead of noming a failed part.
DENSO notes that battery condition and resistance in the starting circuit can affect cranking speed. Professional testing must use vehicle-specific information; a sound alone is not a replacement recommendation. Avoid repeated or prolonged attempts and follow the owner's manual. Do not bypass terminals or attempt unsafe electrical tests.
Send the year, make, model, when the symptom began and any recent work. Tell us if the car cannot move so the visit can be coordinated before transport. This guide is preparation for a professional inspection, not a remote diagnosis.
