A tire is being spent more than the others? Before you ask for a specific repair, you should collect information and request an inspection. A photograph helps explain the problem, but does not replace the measurements.

Start with security

The NHTSA recommends regular review of pressure, wear and damage. It indicates replacing tyres when the drawing reaches 2 / 32 inch and warns about cuts, cracks and bulbs. If you find damage, loss of pressure or a major change in the vehicle's behavior, do not continue to drive to prove it: ask for professional guidance and assistance if you cannot safely move it.

A useful list to prepare your consultation

With the vehicle parked safely, record mark, model, year and millage. Describe which tire you are worried about and when you noticed it. Do not get under the car or lift it to take pictures.

  • Photography the area you can see without moving the vehicle in a dangerous way.
  • Write down if there was a recent blow to a baccalaureate or a baccalaureate.
  • Find the date of the last rotation, alignment or replacement of tyres.
  • Indicates if a pressure warning appears on the board.
  • It explains whether the steering wheel vibrates, if the car is diverted or if you just watch wear; do not do a road test to reproduce it.

This record does not identify the cause. Its aim is that you can clearly explain what changed and that the workshop organizes the proper inspection.

Pressure, alignment and swing are not the same

See the recommended pressure on the vehicle label or on its manual: the number of the rim side is not the specific recommendation of the car. NHTSA distinguishes the swing, which helps the wheels turn correctly, from the alignment. A request for "alignment" by phone does not confirm that this is the necessary work.

When asking for an estimate, ask for an explanation of what will be inspected and what findings would justify an intervention. You can ask for the measurements available and an explanation before you allow additional work. You cannot guarantee a solution or decide which parts to change only by the appearance of a tire.

What to send to the workshop

You can use this message: "I have a [year, brand and model], with [millage]. I noticed wear in [location]. It started approximately [date]. The vehicle [presents / does not present] other symptoms. I would like to coordinate an inspection and know its scope before authorizing work." Avoid including personal documents in photographs.

English summary: prepare for a tire-wear inspection

Even pull wear is a reason to request an inspection, not a confirmed diagnosis. Record your vehicle year, make, model, mileage and recent tire-service history. Take photos only while safely parked; do not crawl under the vehicle or drive to recreate a symptom. Tell the shop about warning lights, recent impacts and changes in handling. Ask what the inspection covers and request an explanation before authorizing repairs.
